BIOGRAPHY
Details
Hello! My name is Benjamin Buchan and I am a photographer, visual anthropologist and ski instructor. I am originally from the Italian Alps, growing up in a small village called Champoluc in the Aosta Valley. I moved to Brighton in 2019 for my bachelors degree in anthropology and international relations, which I graduated from earlier this year. In September, I moved up north to Manchester to study a masters in Visual Anthropology.
From an early age until 18, I was a ski racer for the local club. However, I became injured in 2016 and was unable to ski that season, so picked up a camera and had a go at shooting. Since then, I developed a huge passion for photography…
My main focus as a photographer is the mountains. Whether it is people skiing or mountaineering, or the incredible landscape that I was surrounded by growing up. The mountains are a fundamental part of my life, shaping me as a person and inevitably as a photographer. Throughout my time between the UK and my home in the Alps, I’ve been able to continuously work on my photography skills.
I aim to capture the interactions between mountain communities and their changing homes as a result of urbanisation and the obvious influence, climate change.
